I'm not really certain of the value in a DCP player either,. Visually, it won't be replicating how it would look at a theater and just because it plays doesn't mean it will player on a real server. A better tool would be a compliance validator that would give you confidence a DCP was made correctly. I'm not saying there is no value in a DCP player, just not sure it's enough to justify the development time. Giving yourself time to test a DCP in the destination venue is the best, if possible.

I would like to know how the Red Ray Projector interacts with a DCP. Would a DCP even be necessary to view a Digital Movie on the Red Ray?
One camera is a shoot... two or more is a production.

You do realize that the Red Ray Projector was named after the format Red intends to replace DCP with right? The Red Ray player will also play back DCP files too.

Do you have a link/info that indicates it will play DCPs? The Red Player / Projector system certainly isn't designed for use in traditional movie theaters, so not sure why they would bother supporting DCPs.

FinalDCP from magnamana.com is available for 350 Euros and includes one node. it takes about 14 hours to render out a 90min film on a 6 core (12 thread) 3.33ghz to an 8TB Raid Array. only down side is there is no app to view it with. although I think they are working on some solution for this. they handle all the conversions to XYZ and resolution conversions

Unless RED has implemented DCP playback in the labs since their last presentation, It doesn't do DCP, but some have asked for that feature. The RED player plays back media encoded in RED's A/V codec as well as h.264 encoded media. The RED Ray name was used because the product was a jab at Blu-Ray. Originally, it was a 4K A/V format on optical disc media. They canned the optical disc and went with flash memory instead. The Red laser projector is supposed to be DCP compliant to allow independent theatres and big chains to use it with their existing digital cinema infrastructure, if they have such equipment already in place.

DCP software is one thing, theres some good applications available. The main part of the process is QA which is where skills are needed and is the main cost of the process.
