Final Cut (assuming you are using that) can automatically author a nice DVD for you, with a picture of your choice as the background for the menu and everything. But I reccomend DVD for submission copies, when they want the actual exhibition copy you should give them the high res video file on a flash drive or as a DCP (digital cinema package)

I used FCP X to do the same thing to make 6 submission copies for a festival run last year.

I can't speak for FCP 7 but I'm sure it has a similar funcitonality.

Apple has discontinued idvd and Dvd studio Pro as far as I'm aware. You can still find it but it isn't included anymore in the installation software or purchasable online.

As you know, Apple is moving away from DVDs and becoming file based. It is getting out of that technology all together (as evidence with the MBP Retina and MBA). IDVD is part of iLife but if correct isn't included on computers anymore and I don't think it's even available for purchase.

You can use FCPX and 'share' the file (aka export it) as a DVD. In the end, this is probably your best option if you don't have iDVD or studio Pro. You can however buy Toast for Mac but those great menus that DVD had is coming to an end.

Sure hope film festivals go that route.
