    Hi,

Is it possible to operate the Epic without the Red LCD, Side handle or Redmote?

No. Not if you want to be able to adjust any of the settings.

if choosing between Redmote and Sidehandle, I would personally go with the Side Handle as it also provides the power benefits and the ability to hotswap power sources, plus the ergonomic advantages.

I use only EVF and Sidehandle. Works great.

As you'll see below it's possible to use only the EVF and side SSD buttons to control the camera.

It may not be preferable but you could if you had to.

True for REC and eject cards, but no other options are available.

The link Ryan posted was showing how you could remap all the Side SSD keys and EVF keys to allow full menu navigation by assigning the buttons to North, East, West, South, Enter, and Menu.

The trick to using this would be to get a version of this preset for the camera version you are running (things sometimes change...) and place it in a folder named "force_preset" to have it automatically applied on boot. After that you should be able to navigate all the menus and set everything up.

However, I feel it would be very cumbersome and would much rather have a Side Handle or REDmote.
