I heard Apple will release quad-core based mac mini soon. What about farm on mini-macs?

nice little computers, but not good for a renderfarm and to expensive as industrial computing system.

notebook-disk to slow if swapping, processor to few cores, no possibility to integrate a 10G / infiniband, no basic 3D graphics if required for rendering etc.

pros are low power consumption and compact form factor.

    Hi

    a non-geek-neewby question here:
Actually it is possible to remote rendering on OSX with REDLine. Is there someone here can explain to common people (no offense for the geek community here :0) how it work, what are the tools required, etc...Like get mac, install this, run this command line, see your render picture.

thanks, we try to make a RED workflow for commercial here and price of mac node is not an issue here. But simplicity, yyeeeeesss!

I created a small tool for myself that makes a file with a series of REDline commands to export required shots as DPX. By splitting this work up (so machine A has 50% of the file, and machine B has the other 50%) you can easily distribute the work.

However, I don't think there are currently any tools that automate this.
