    Hello Guys!

    Cheers,

I had a chance to shoot with the 24mm (the only one out) last weekend. We pulled together a very quick little short to shoot on the Epic. I don't have any frame grabs to post right now, but I can tell you I was very, very impressed by this lens. The movements of focus and iris rings felt very nice. What I found most interesting is that the lenses are "chipped," so the Epic will not only read the correct f-stop/t-stop, but it will also give you focus distance readings on screen when using the RED Canon mount.

I'll try to post some frame grabs when I can.

It is not a PL mount lens. It is EF-only at the moment. The Cine Zooms from Canon come in EF and PL, but the primes are, at the moment, EF-only.

Then I'd say Compact Primes are going to be your best bet at the price point.

Nice surprise with the chipping, didn't expect that. For me EF-mount is just right, it gives me the freedom to swap between cine-primes like the Canons or CP.2s and still-glass. Speaking of which, a comparison between the Canon Cine and the Canon L-prime would be nice. ;) I know the mechanics are far better on the Cines, but i'm curious about the difference in optical performance.

I wish I had the 24mm L Prime to compare when I had the 24mm Cine lens. What I can tell you (purely anecdotal, of course), is that the images felt slightly less contrasty, and had little if any chromatic aberration that i could see. We shot mostly around f3.5, so we weren't wide open, but I felt very good about what the lens gave us.

Sounds promising. :) Can't wait to see samples. I don't expect the cine-version to be far better than the L, because the L is already great. So even if they "only" match up, this would be great, because we could build a kit that offers both, great mechanics for accurate manual focus and AF on the L's.

I hope some in-depth reviews come up later, comparisons between this, the L, the CP.2, Cine-Xenar MK3 and of course the RPP would be something. Hehe.

I am thinking the cine-version is going to blow everything away !! Nothing is like MPs, but maybe this gets close...
