After using a couple of different filters im kinda confused about infra red pollution filters. I have used a set of Tiffen irnd which were a little bit greenish then i've used another set which had a slight magenta on it. Whats the difference? I dont get it. And then there is this another issue about the filter called 'hot mirror'. When do i have to use it? Some people say that even if i use irnds i should use it. A couple of days ago i've seen another filter from tiffen called 'T1' what is that? Is it another type of hot mirror? So im really confused guys help me out. Which filter does what and do i have to white balance after i put them in front of the lens?

T1 is combo IRND where the IR strength is relative to the ND strength. On some of the Cyan Greenish IRND's I've seen color vignetting on wider lenses. And I believe the color difference in the filter itself (magenta / cyan ) is primarily due to the dye or coating used.

Hello Utku. if you learn something difference between irnd and hot mirror please let me know too. I am also confused.
As we know digital cinema cameras are Daylight lovers. So that means we can get all the color space properly under the daylight. When we work under 3200K there will be problem controlling black balance.
You can see magenta around the blacks. I solve the problem by crashing the blacks and controlling midtones. But there is a problem after this. Losing dynamic range! And much more contrast out of control!
Viper digital cinema camera solve the problem adding green to the image. So controlling green is easier than controlling magenta. ( When you look through Tiffen T1 you can see how much is green. This is the point. T1 adds green to the image ) I believe Hot mirrors, IRNDS, T1 is useless under daylight condition. I smell some marketing strategy here.
You don't have to do white balance after using those filters.
( I sent to you some links to explain that )

By the way I am gonna use those filters 3 hours after and I've never seen any trouble filming without filters :)

I use a plain Tiffen Hot Mirror in front of regular NDs - works just fine for me
