With RED ONE, latest firmware, I am trying to do a shot using varispeed without using ramp, but instead of the varispeed starting immediately, it is delayed like 10 seconds.

    In other words:

hit record -> 10 seconds of 24fps -> immediate change to 60fps (no ramp)

then another shot, do the reverse:

hit record -> 10 seconds of 60fps -> immediate change to 24fps (no ramp)

    How is possible? THANKS!

You shoot the entire scene at 60fps and in post you run the clip at 250 % for the first 10 seconds then 100% .. revers for the other clip.

Yousuf, I'm in edit a lot, and in this situation we normally just use a single 60fps shot....We speed it up 250% to have it "look" 24fps...and then do a cut and revert back to the native 60fps footage when we want to "slow it down".

IE - wouldn't shooting everything at 60fps, but in post speeding the footage up to 24fps...achieve the same effect as doing it in camera?

You may want to consider at least testing this out.

    Best of luck.

No problem Nick .. Yousuf the nice thing about doing it in post is you can time the frame rate change to the scene perfectly.

Exactly. I work in promos, and we do this all the time. We'll do a music change, have a stop down, and SLAM...cut to the slow mo...and then WHAM go back to real time. We always cut it right to the beat, right to the moment we need EXACTLY. Looks KILLER.

Nick, Ted- Awesome. That's a great solution, I love this forum !! You're right, it will be much easier to do the timing in post.
