Cannot Ingest RED Footage in Prelude

I'm trying to ingest RED Epic footage in a variety of formats, but Prelude is unable to pull any of it in. The error message reported in the Events panel is "Import task - import file: "{path\filename}.R3D" failed. Reason: Import XMP failed!"

I'm running Win7 x64. Prelude is version CS6 1.0.1

The updated ImporterRED.prm is located in D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Prelude CS6\Plug-ins\Common\

The updated ImporterREDServer.exe is located in D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Prelude CS6\

I can pull the footage into Premiere Pro with no issue. Does anyone have a fix?

Still no support for .r3d files in Prelude as far as I know...

The support for R3D files is supposed to be there now. The poster in that thread cannot add markers due to the lack of metadata sidecar support, but he was able to ingest the footage. At the bottom of the thread it is stated that it can ingest and play R3D footage, but it will not yet work with metadata. It should be able to transcode as well, if need be.

Sorry, should have read the issue you were having more carefully. I just tried importing some .r3d files into Prelude 1.01 myself and have the same error that you're seeing! I'm also on Win7 machine.

I was able to open .r3d files in Prelude 1.0 without issue... I just gave up using it after finding out I couldn't add markers or anything. Now I guess I have to give up using it because it won't work at all!

No worries, Greg. At least I now know that it's not just me. I was hoping to build Prelude into a workflow. Adobe?

By the way, with the help of Adobe I got Prelude working in as far as it will now load and play R3D clips. I had to replace the 64-bit plugs in the Prelude programs folder with the 32-bit ones. There's a note about this on the page where you download the plugins, but it's not mentioned in the documentation.

Prelude doesn't as yet work with metadata for RED footage, so it's still not usable in a workflow.
