I finally had a chance to break my Scarlet in and shoot a teaser for my band's first original music video (attached to the end of a cover video).
We went out in the desert with a minimal setup, and just some natural lighting to put my Scarlet through it's paces. I'm blown away by it's performance.
I'm a Musician/Producer first, but have a huge passion for cinematography and finally have the oppurtunity to indulge in it.
The video was shot 3K at 48FPS and exported out at 2K 24FPS via Prores 422 then uploaded to YouTube (amazing the amount of degradation that happens during the YouTube encoding process, but still looks better than anything else I've ever shot).
I graded in Redcine for the first time, and I love, love, LOVE the flexibility of shooting RAW.

    (Original song starts at 3:37)

Nice work man. Cool song as well.

What glass did you use? And was the effects work done in 3K as well?

    Thanks Jeff. I used a Canon 100mm F2.8L and a Rokinon 35mm F1.4.
I exported 2K files from Redcine-x and did the effects work from there since that was going to be my final resolution. Next time I'll probably try taking it 3K all the way though seeing as my computer didn't break a sweat with the 2K.
I'm slowly figuring out my optimal workflow, lol.

If anyone has any tips or constructive criticism's that would help improve the overall image quality or delivery I'd love to hear them!
I've already learned a ton from reading other posts in these forums, so I figure it's my turn to allow other people to learn from MY mistakes :)

Nice work.. What speed did you shoot at and how did you do your audio play back?
Love the gritty stuff.. Not too keen on the fake flare though.. Just seemed to always look the same even when moving.. Other

Thanks Justin, I've seen your posts, you do great work man! I shot at 48 FPS (1/96th shutter speed) and played the audioback at 200% speed. I want to try 36 FPS and 150% on the audio next time to see how that looks as well. For scratch audio capture I'm using a Zoom H2n with an adapter cable I made.
Are you talking about the flare I used for the missile? Anything in particular you would have done differently to add more realism? I'm definitely a noob to VFX work, and I'm just getting to the point where I feel comfortable enough to play around with it a bit, but still have a lot to learn.

Love to video, and the look! I might be a little biased because I am obsessed with Imagine Dragons right now but the band did a great cover. Were you on steady cam or monopod for majority of it? Had just the right amount of movement in my opinion. I don't know if they are VFX or real, either or the clouds look real nice in the wide shot. Kudos.

Thanks Hannah! (Sorry for the late reply, just got some downtime in our touring schedule) Imagine Dragons are super talented guys as well as extremely personable, their new album is phenomenal. We used a mixture of handheld (gunner style) a monopod and a tripod. Slowing the footage down by 50% has the upside of making the handheld shots quite a bit smoother, we also used the Canon 100mmL with IS so that helped smooth out any jitters that might have been there. The clouds were VFX, for the most part, done in After Effects.
