Dell just announced a 27-inch AIO multi-media PC with QFHD display. It's not so much for the RedUser crowd (Unless you are a photo-fiend like I am) given the hardware it's packing and the obvious lack of add-on capabilities but it's a good sign of things to come.

Nevermind, Dell flubbed the PR as usual and mis-labeled the display as Quad HD (which is what most people and journalists also call QFHD as it's 4 x 1080p) when it's WQHD (Wide Quad High Definition = 4 x 720p) but the AIO does in fact have a full touch screen for Windows 8 which is still kinda cool and new.

Yes, the nomenclature has always been very confusing. Windows 8 is enabling some really cool form factors.

On a related note, there's an insane Samsung Series 9 prototype going around the shopfloors at IFA which packs in two 13 inch 2560x1440 touchscreen displays onto a 0.6 inch thick chassis. Asus did show a similar dual-display Taichi at Computex, but that was "only" 1920x1080.

There's a more traditional notebook style Series 9 with a single matte IPS 13.3" 2560x1440 display too which should release with Windows 8. That is 225 dpi, which makes it the densest notebook display yet (the new Macbook Pro is close though).

Intel promised us 2560x1440 notebooks in 2012, looks like we are well on course for 3840x2160 in premium 15+ inch notebooks in 2013.

We'll surely soon have retina screens on the larger iMacs and separate retina screens for power macs.

I can see it coming next year. Adobe is updating all their Mac software over the next several months to work properly with such display tech.

Sharp has a 32-inch QFHD LED desktop monitor at IFA using IGZO display technology. Snazzy. I imagine Apple's next big display will be something along those lines.
