I'm very happy to be able to come along on the ride... and unbelievably excited what's about to come around the next corner...

All that teasing makes me wonder, what you have up your sleeve ;) can't wait!

And thank you so much again and again for starting all this!

Not by much. RED said they were planning to hire 500 people this year. And didn't they have about 400-500 already? Arri is about 1,000 people too. Definitely compared to Sony, but I don't know that the Television and Walkman divisions can really count when comparing size. :)

Which is precisely what I would *hope* RED would do! I have no desire for RED to be an underdog. I want them to have the people and resources to do everything they want.

Should be as good or better, but I'm looking forward to see some side-by-side tests, too. Well, maybe in early 2013...

I agree Gavin - further growth and innovation by Red is beneficial for all who use or own Red cameras, and for the industry as a whole. Controlled growth fuels competition, which fuels innovation, which in turn sells more cameras and in turn provides more options for all of us who use or own camera systems. With the growth of Red the whole dynamic in the motion media camera industry has evolved. I'm liking that...

Even if Red indeed eventually becomes the top dog in the motion media industry in terms of company size and sales, I expect they'll still choose to maintain an underdog mentality. That's an ingrained element of Red company culture - and IMO it should be retained. That will push them to stay ahead of the pack, which spurs ongoing innovation, and in turn benefits everyone who uses or owns Red cameras.

Jim's history at Oakley displayed a commitment to ongoing innovation - even when Oakley became a "big dog". I don't see Jim ever changing that mindset with Red - and Jarred and the entire Red staff are on that same frequency too.

    A competitive marketplace benefits everyone...

I've seen a huge underdog lately. Aren't you, Jim? No? Strange. :-)

    Please, correct my written english.
I'm still learning, and I need your help.
    Thanks in advance.

Ready to upgrade several cameras to dragon. Ready for light EF mount primes and zooms. Ready for Red Projector. Ready, ready, ready. What happens if I buy 3 scarlets today? Are they upgradable to dragon?

Yes. Why do you think Jim has been so happy the last couple weeks?

You will see some images before christmas and we will let you be the judge which is better. You guys have no idea how hard it is for Jim and I not to show you test images from the sensor.... :)

I will warn you though... in terms of a shoot-out.. It is akin to bringing a bazooka to a knife fight, so hopefully we see a bit more competition before it is time to enter that battle.

We actually had to re-redesign our camera ASIC yet again to handle how good the sensor turned out in terms of latitude and noise floor.. so when it's upgrade time you guys will all be getting new ones of those as well dropped into your cameras.

That is also the reason we havn't committed to a Dragon-upgraded Scarlet yet.. we gotta wait to see how the new ASIC handles things.

There is some bad news in all this though.... Even though the sensor will be done by the end of the year as expected, and we will have some Dragon-Epic prototypes floating around we will share as best we can..... realistically you guys will need to wait a couple more more months until the new new ASICs come out of the oven to start the whole customer upgrade process.

Wow Jarred, Jim. Thanks for the insight about the Dragon Progress. I hope the Scarlet is upgradable in some capacity to the new sensor.
