The truth is you should do your homework first and post here later. All your questions are answered in the forums.

But then again, this is a very helpfull forum... :)

You cannot record "scaled" (which is what you ask for). You'll have to do the scaling in post.

    The good thing?

If you're happy with the proxies, you kan use the 2k high proxies for many uses, or as a offline format for final firstlight and conform.

    As to your computer...
    Depends on your throughput needs.

If you need "realtime" transcoding to DPX's, you'll probably need some of those, some RAIDS and a SAN.

On the other hand, if you're finishing for TV, the ProRes route is a totally viable way to go.

You will need as much RAM as you can eat, and at least 1gb pr core to get the speeds you will want. And that RAID is never far away in your head, once you start onlining (in whatever format you choose).

For the time being. 30 fps is the max rate @ 4k. You can go up to seventysomething in 2k

    Cheers

Miltos...i find your reply to be a little rough. I have been reading the threads for a long time, and this is my first reply to a thread and it's down to your attitude towards brand new members i have responded. There are all the answers to his questions in the threads but he has obviously been looking and getting confused. He is a brand new member and by the looks has only just started to get onto the RED game. The time it took you to reply and have a go at him would have taken you the same to be a little more constructive and not so obtuse. Please try and keep in with the spirit of the forum and the RED community.

Yes, i was purposefully a little rough. The poster gave me the impression that didn't spend more than 2 minutes looking for answers to his questions.

As far as i remember this is the first time i reply to a first time poster and this can hardly validate an 'attitude' towards new members. Also, i have to admit i am surprised that after so many interesting threads and discussions i was the reason you felt like replying to a reduser.net thread like this!

There is the FAQ sticky he could have read and there is nothing confusing about it. It's very informative and very detailed.

Actually the matter of time is what motivated me to reply to this thread. I felt it is unfair when someone who wants information doesn't dedicate the time to get it and instead he asks from others to dedicate their time and serve it to him without even the minimal effort.

OK. I will end my nastiness now and go back to the spirit of the forum and the RED community.

I even updated it to fix a few of the inaccuracies because of this thread.

Your Mac should be fine for editing. 2gig of RAM minimum.
    Max fps (at the moment)
    4k @ 30fps (hopefully 60 later)
    3k @ 60fps,
    2k @ 75?

    Buy
    1x Red One
1x CF card module (card can come later)
    1x Red Raid
    1x LCD
    1x EVF
    1x Power Pack
1x Base Plate and as many metal bits as you need
    1x Nikon Mount
    Some Lens
    Enjoy

I personally don't see where Miltos was being at all rough or nasty about anything, but let me look again. . . .nope can't see it.
I think Miltos was just being real, you know?

Some people just can't handle real sometimes.

It does appear that Wellcome did not do his research first, because if he had, well. . . . :detective2:
We do see it from time to time. A new poster will ask questions that are easily answered if they simply READ a little before hand.
Not that any of us aren't willing to help or anything, but Miltos is making a very valid point here.

    By the way, Welcome Wellcome
