I just got my camera 441 here in Bangkok (yeah!).

Right now the camera is inside, I expect the ambient temperature to be 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), I'll buy a thermometer today to be sure. This is actually a cool day here in Thailand and the camera is getting very hot. I can put my hand on the top of the camera for about 5 seconds before I have to pull away. Fan is set to hot mode, running at full speed all the time which is very noisy. Temperature reads OK.

Is this normal behaviour for the camera? I read somewhere it should be okay up until 40 degrees Celsius but I am a bit worried about that now.

I remember something about removing winter strips from the air vents but can't find anything about it in the manual.

If the strips are in, you should remove them.

The camera body will feel hot to the touch way before you get a temperature warning in the LCD. And you will get the warning long before it stops working.

At 86 degrees, you will not have any problems.

How do I know if the strips are in? Does the camera normally come with strips installed? I opened the vents but don't know what to look for...

On the bottom of the camera there are vents on both sides. These both should have nothing blocking them. Let me know if there is something blocking them I can help you get them out. Thanks.

Cameras only shipped with winter strips for a very short period of time quite awhile ago. When they did, they were on the CF module side of camera at base in the ventilation holes.

the filter would be on the vent that you just took off the camera. If it is not there, then your camera did not come with one.

So that plastic strip with dust filter is not the winter strip, right?

Come on, RED. This is a simple question, why am I not getting a simple answer.

There is a filter you can see on the picture. Is this a winter strip or not? And if it is not then what is it and what happens if I remove it?
