    Okay, to put it simply, here's what I think Scarlet will be:

    - 2K sensor lipstick cam
    - CF Card slot
    - ability to attach 16mm lenses (either native or with an attachment)

    That is about it. Small. Simple. Beautiful of course. And cheap as chips (like $5,000).

    i don't get it. what would something like this give you that a $1000 1080p, solid state camcorder doesn't.

    16mm lenses are fine but most people don't own lenses like that. many more own nikon and canon lenses but now you're turning a lipstick cam into a giant piece of glass with some lipstick-sized electronics on the other end. why not just build in a nice lens and create an ergonomically efficient all-in-one camera? isn't scarlet supposed to broaden the market the way red one did but much broader. i cannot think of many practical uses for a lipstick cam-especially when smaller, lighter (by the time you account for 16mm lens) cams for half the price would do the job. are you going to shoot a feature with a lipstick cam? would you hold a lipstick cam all day for eng work? if so, then how would you control it? is it all auto or pc controlled? either way you negate the use of cinematic lenses and/or it's portability. and if you're not using it all day and just using it as a mounted cam somewhere, why pay $5000?

    cf or sd solid state recording seems to be the one thing everyone agrees upon.

    2k is fine but it would definitely need user selectable redcode raw levels, high dynamic range and very low light sensitivity. that's something a good 16mm lens could help deliver but so could a built-in lens. i'm not one of those 4k zealots but i do believe that if scarlet has anything less than 35mm dof, it will be ignored by most. with 35mm dof, you not only create a market for filmmakers and videographers, but now you bring in the still dslr people too. but a large sensor but it doesn't have to be 4k.

    my canon 5d has a 35mm still size 12mp sensor but it's not a lipstick cam. it feels solid and rests nicely in my hand. if it shot 2k redcode to a cf card up 100 fps for $5,000, i would probably get one. they could include a recommended lens but also include a lens mount for still 35mm lenses. a pocket cam should not need a focus puller or anyone else but an operator so there is no need for real cinema lenses. if filmmakers want a nice zoom that doesn't breathe, they buy red or something much more expensive but they'll bring scarlet along for the location scout.

    jim has stated that the red is just like a dslr but with motion so the next logical camera he would build is going to give him the one thing red one cannot-portability...but in a dslr package.
