I'm probably just doing something totally wrong here, but I haven't gotten a single R3D file to open in anything. I've tried RedCine (goes to the opening screen and then vanishes with with an Apple error "The application RedCine quit unexpectedly") and RedAlert opens but vanishes when I select an R3D file from my hard drive.

Is there anything specific about where I place the R3d file to make it open? Is this a common error or has a codec on my system not been installed properly? I installed the FCS/Quicktime components and also Redline (I thought) but nothing seems to respond.

    I'm on a:
2X3GHz Dual Core Intel with 5GB Ram
    OS 10.4.11
    QT Player says its v7.3.1

    Thanks
    -Will

Try running Repair permissions from Disc Utility - that might sort it out.

Both apps are installed in your Applications folder or elsewhere ?

    Doh!

It's an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (256mb ram). I also have a Kona LHe card.

I did repair permissions but I'm still getting both errors.

Thanks for the fast replies. Any other ideas?

NVIDIA GF on Mac is big trouble.
    ATI is good.

Search using keyword "NVIDIA*Mac" or "NVIDIA*problem"

Try different R3D files. The 16x9 ones (I believe its those) cause my system to do exactly what you describe.

The file that I got is from RedRelay (I don't have one of my own yet but will this summer). it can be found here: http://www.redrelay.net/owners/0232/

It's the Martial Arts Medium clip.

I got another clip to open in Red Alert, but Red Cine still doesn't get past the boot up screen for me.

I have to say it's quite irritating that the software is so finiky depending on the platform and card that you have. I certainly hope that the final version works better on both ATI and NVIDIA.

There is a command-line version ("Redline") included with the latest Red Alert. It doesn't use the graphics card so it might not have the same issue. http://www.red.com/support

Try a total reinstall of RedCine.

Trash the app and the folder found here - Boot drive/Library/REDCINE.

Dl a fresh copy and try again.
