How many Spikes

I just wondered how many Spikes there are going to be. Will there be one to start with and then a second refined from the first, then a third... Or will there be a mini production run of Spikes all being tested concurrently?

Just interested in the design process.

I kind of like the idea of a little bunch of spikes, each with their own personality, some a bit rougher, some more refined. Hmmm, maybe I am just a bit too Christmassy still.
