I get my RED next week.
    No lens yet.
Can't decide, don't know how to approach this so I have a few questions
In order to Keep It Simple Stupid or K.I.S.S.
so I can keep up with you guys.

Can someone break it down for me.
in 3 levels of cost for lens options?
    PL or Nikon mount ok.

I don't have large amounts of money but I do have
    $800.00 I can invest in a lens.

    so
what would you do with $800.00 for a lens
thats it thats your budget. No rentals you must shoot.

    2nd
what would you do with $4,000.00? as your lens budget.
I understand a good lens cost much more than just $4K
but im not even close to there yet, im just trying to stay realistic.

3rd how much have you spent for your lenses, what are they and do you recommend them.

Currently I own Nikon Lenses, 35mm,
    50mm , 85mm, 100mm, 135mm

    Thanks in Advance.

    Nikon/Birger Mount.
Or used 16mm glass if you can start with 2K.

    Not enough.
    6-8K.
    a) Red Lens. Great image, handling so/so to bad, price excellent, t stop mediocre.
    b) used Angenieux/cooke zoom. red lens offer better image quality, weaker handling. Angenieux/cooke offer better range, but are heavier and (meanwhile) difficult to find. The 10x 12-120/25-250 might be the suited ones.
    c) small selection of older primes. takes time to find, check and to convert to PL. Image quality is not really different from the zooms, but you will win 1-1.5 stops.

I bought lenses for >150.000$ and think i could add the same sum once more to have the nearly perfect setup. But thats not worth it if you dont rent them out.
for primes, photolenses will give you better quality than -any- movieprime, even the arri masterprimes are not better than modern standard photolenses. their handling will scare away snobs and conservative people.
for zooms, sadly, there is no way around the quite expensive european specialists if you want the best for moviemaking, as photozooms, different from primes, are designed with different design goals.
