There has been much confusion regarding how Epic Dragon handles anamorphic support. I wanted to update this with a bit of a key to understanding it for those who choose to shoot anamorphic.

    Dragon Basic Anamorphic Shooting Notes

Currently Dragon has support for 1.3X and 2X anamorphic modes.

If you're using 2X anamorphic lenses you will likely desire the 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratios under the 4K resolution. These aspect ratios are not supported at 6K, 5.5K, 5K, or 4.5K. However, do not let that confuse you, you will get what you are after under the 4K resolution mode using these aspect ratios.

For instance, 4K 5:4 equals 3840x3072 and unsqueezed you produce a 7680x3072 image with a 2.50:1 aspect ratio. You will notice that this is using close to the full height of the sensor.

If using 1.3X anamorphic lenses you may want to explore the 3:2 aspect ratios found at 4.5K and lower resolutions, which produce an aspect ratio of 1.95:1.

It's a bit different than the "old way", however this way is now more aspect ratio and resolution width based. Which makes a bit of sense.

Just adding an example image for those shooting anamorphic.

Here's the typical 4K 2X ANA setting using the 5:4 aspect ratio.

Is it possible in the Dragon menu to create a custom recorded aspect ratio? For example it would be useful to me to record 2809 x 3160 (0.89:1 aspect ratio), with 2x anamorphic lenses, to give a final desqueezed output aspect ratio of 1.78:1

Currently not, but it was hinted that we might see in a future firmware update "custom resolution" support.

Fingers crossed. I have my eyes on one particular format that I think would be exceptionally useful for productions that are destined for widescreen and 16x9 with an additional focus on lens coverage.

Phil your first post says there is no Carbon upgrade path... Was true at the time but the option now exists so maybe you should update it...
