is 'Scarlet' the final name for whatever this camera will become?

cause frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.... for that name.

    what happened to Red Mini?

obviously the name doesn't matter in the end and scarlett is better than HVX or PD or whatever.

But I'd have thought they'd keep the RED branding in the camera name though?

iPod, iPod mini, iPod Nano, iPod Touch.... you know, that whole thought train on branding.

This is branding for smart people. Every product doesn't have to start with "i" for us to understand it. There is a less obvious connection. See if you can find it. :-)

Frankly, if Scarlet is even half of what we are speculating it might be, the branding won't matter at all. They could call it the 'Steaming Pile of Crap™' as long as it shoots 2K with decent lenses, Redcode RAW, Compact Flash, XLR audio, pocket sized.

It's like the RED ONE, but not as powerful. How about the PINK ONE? That'd be terrible. Good thing they don't go by that.

What don't you like about "Scarlet"?

It's sort of like the sequel to Jurassic Park. Not even called Jurassic Park, it's called The Lost World.
November 3rd is likely to be the most watched day in Reduser history. It will be well worth it.

  5. #5 Scarlet's New Name
I think I understand why "Scarlet" might be a good choice, but IMO it's low hanging fruit. RED is all about the tastiest stuff at the top of the tree...

In keeping with a "red" theme--and trying to steer clear of the obvious--I think this new product line ought to be called ROSSO.

It's way cooler than Scarlet. The word looks way better than Scarlet. It sounds way better than Scarlet. It's also a bit nebulous... i.e. intriguing.

Here's what I was thinking for an initial logo comp for this new series.

    Thoughts anyone?

    PS--Rosso means 'red' in Italian.

PPS--This of course is only if changing the name is still an option.

I thought it was called "The Lost World: Jurassic Park"

There never was a "RED Mini"... It's always been "Professional Pocket Camera". Jim said the name of the camera is "Scarlet".

Agree with 0059099, "Rosso" is corny.

Rosso rolls off the tongue. I like it.

I don't know how it is any more "corny" than Scarlet. Red Scarlet and Red Rosso both mean Red Red when you get down to it.

The one good thing about it possibly being too late to change the name is that it will be close to production come NAB :) Whatever this camera is...

    Rosso?

What are you guys talking about? The definition of scarlet is "a brilliant red color." What's better than that?

Since I started the "Rosso" issue, I'll add a little more to clarify. :)

I thought the name Scarlet might be internal code for the new camera system, and possibly not permanent. I was hoping such, because I just didn't like it too much--though it would never be a reason not to buy. I can't wait to see the product specs.

To me, "Scarlet" was too simple; too easy. RED, as a camera brand, was such a departure from a normal tech brand--we all fell in love instantly. So simple. So understated. "Scarlet" just seemed to be a more-of-the-same name in a 'first thing to come to us' sort of way. Not trying to insult the team, Jim, or anyone else. Just my thoughts.

After seeing this thread, I thought... "what would go along with a 'red' theme... but not be super obvious at first?" (Unless you're Italian, or familiar with Italian I guess)

I just liked the way ROSSO looked and sounded. Just my musings on a possible name and look for the new line. No biggie.

But Jeremy, "scarlet" means two things. It comes from the richly colored cloth... so as a noun it means 'bright red' ... but as an adjective it means "grossly and glaringly offensive" and associated with "sexual immorality" (The Scarlet Letter, etc.) ... that might be reason enough to rethink it. ;-)
