    :) ?

Wonder if we had an informal poll, how many has experienced this...
Sure, I get they sold thousands of them, but just from the RU'sers I know, would kinda get an idea of failurerate on these things...

I own two and one is currently dead as a doornail. Tried everything, still dead, never mistreated, rarely ever moved. One day without even being handled for months etc it just died and never came back. I refuse to send it in and pay $3,000 for a limited warranty battle tested card in return. This is by far the one thing that makes me furious about RED. Love the images off their cameras, hate their post workflow and these god for saken RR. I may take a phantom flex and record this POS RR blowing up at 1,500 fps so i can enjoy the card in some respect again. I'll link the video here when i do :)

    I wouldn't mind watching that... :)

Mine stopped working after a firmware update. Didn't get it back with a downgrade, have had it on the shelf and occasionally taken it out to see if some wonders would happen, but nope... :)

Just anecdotally, amongst UK DITs I know, they don't have a great history of reliability. Whilst they are still probably a small percentage of the thousands working fine out there, I'd say they aren't as reliable as mass production graphics cards. At least a couple of people I know have had multiple card failures over time which can't be attributed to just a bad batch.

That, together with their high relative cost, narrow focus and short warranty makes them a "think hard" purchase rather than no-brainer, unless transcoding and editing Red footage is one of your primary tasks and therefore essential.

    So...

    After reading my inbox...
And seeing that Offhollywood sold a bunch of Rockets once LightIron took over...

Would be nice to gauge the RR experience.

If it's good and doesn't involve a trade-in: Vote good
If you have nedded to trade in, vote: Not entirely good

It's not a poll... But just leave your comment...

Sorry to hear Gunleik and others.
    Mine have been good...
2 Rockets...one since the year they came out and the other
a year old Battle Tested. They have lived in mobile chasis.

Compared to say an AJA Kona 3, which has been moved around swapped, replaced, shelved, re installed, updated, downgraded and on day in and day out, with zero issues...

    or

a GPU card that renders, displays, drives dual displays, runs on several pieces of software, etc.

the REDRockets seem less reliable. There are quite a few (on reduser) stories of dead cards and 3k$ replacement fees. I bought a used green card which worked flawlessly for abou three weeks. When I upgraded the firmware the card died. Red was great and sent me a replacement while they looked at the card (which can't seem to be repaired) and let me know that I could buy a replacement for 3K. The replacement has been rock solid, but these cards are expensive and should have better warranty protection or some kind of rearmour in case they fail, which, based solely on reading reduser, they seem to do (mind you I have not read a thread like that in a while.

maybe there was just a bad batch and now the new cards are much more stable, or the firmware is better.
