I haven't got my red one yet... so i can't judge on that basis. However I do shoot Digital Still raws a lot on the Nikon d2. The best CF card reader that I have found and used is LEXAR. It should be the same principal in terms of transferring data across to laptop or computer.

This one is a bit pricy but its firewire 800 which means pretty fast.

Don't know if this helps. goodluck.

Thanks Ziad. I figured the cheap one was... well cheap. Just wanted to get a second opinion.

I use the LEXAR all the time and it works great. I'm sure almost any card reader could suffice but USB is slow in comparison to the FireWire800 of the LEXAR. I would recommend the LEXAR.

I got one of these, like a dunderhead:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...d_Adapter.html

I didn't realize that it was 16-bit! So, while it works, it takes about an hour to download an 8GB card. Bah.

So, I went shopping and got a 32-bit reader, this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000T8CFY2

Seems like the ultimate: 32-bit CardBus, plus UDMA compatible. But it just locks up, tried it in two separate computers and it doesn't work. It works for about 10 seconds, copying files like a madman, then it just freezes...

The CF reader in my Dell 2405 monitor works though!

I've tried a couple flash readers with poor results but like you, my Dell 2405 works great.

I can't believe we are looking at Walmart for professional camera gear.

I have used both the Lexar and Sandisk Firewire 800 readers. The Sandisk seems to have a problem recognizing media changes. Lexar seems to be the way to go.

I don't know if I would consider a CF card reader camera gear (I am excluding still camera gear) - IF ANYTHING, it's editorial/post.
I'm new to CF cards and while I have been paying attention here, I was just curious about the particular reader found at Wal-Mart. Nothing to be shocked over.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations to Lexar and FW800.

I use a fire wire 800 San Disk reader and it has been perfect.

Go Sandisk or Lexar. I've tried both...works fast and fine...

Lexar does have an in and out for daisy chaining though.
