    Does anybody know of a small 2k (2048 x 1080) monitor? Preferably smaller than 10", with a dual-link HD-SDI in.

Not too much of a point packing 2k into a 10". Im sure it would look nice but at a certain size your eyes lose their resolving power. And no, i've never heard of a 2k 10" monitor.

It be for mounting 4 of them, 2 x 2... so a total diagonal of 20" for 4k. Just something to focus on. So it's not really about seeing the detail, its just seeing full rez. for focusing. I guess I'll just have to get custom ones made or something. The resolution of WUXGA seems pretty close, so I would just have to convince a company to making a WUXGA display 10-12".

I'm pretty sure that the largest monitoring output is 720p. So, you won't be able to see the full 4k until it's in the computer. Too late to help with focus. I was looking at getting a 30" display for focus/monitoring, but then realized that it would just be the uprezzed 720p, so I just got a cheap 19" 1440x900 Dell. I say save the money and time.

See this isn't for RED though (that's why it's in Off Topic), it's for the Dalsa Origin and I'm going to work with Codex Digital to get a 4k (3840 x 2160 - slightly scaled) monitor out from the material. I'm getting the Astro 56" just for monitoring but I guess I could use it for the AC to pull focus (huge monitor though), with remote FF.

    Hi Andrew

Interesting to hear a Dalsa related question on the RED board. Very brave!

Although I am an (almost) RED owner - hoping to get my e-mail today - I am a huge fan of the DALSA. I had an opportunity to check one out a few weeks ago and the optical viewfinder just blew me away.

We are trying to get a "side by side" test shoot with RED and DALSA together here in Toronto and DALSA are very open to this. It is a refreshing attitude.

Would you care to share your reasons for shooting DALSA? Did you consider RED?

    Thanks.

Yep, we considered RED, but right now with the difficulties of post-production with RED, Dalsa seems to have the better post options right now, IMO. If we can get fully working post workflows for PC, then we may switch back to RED (it is cheaper) but I'm liking the idea of working with DPX files a little more than REDCODE.
