  1. #1 Indie Features On Red - The List
Okay - I am doing this as a TEMP "stop-gap" solution to get a list out there for folks of how many independent (non-Studio financed) features films are shooting, or have already been shot on the Red. Please email me details of features I don't know about and I'll add to this list. PLEASE put "THE LIST" in the subject line and email me at mark (at) OffhollywoodStudios.com - and I will do my best to update the list quickly. Let's avoid films not yet shooting. I grabbed these titles from threads here - so I am sure this list will double over night - and there must be several overseas - so email me! Please send IMDB link or website link for the film.

    Great idea Mark!

For the last five months we've been working on one of the first independent features ever shot on RED ONE ... we're just in the middle of finishing and grading the 95 minute movie as we speak.

'The Red Canvas' is a high-action Mixed Martial Arts Movie ... shot on two REDs during the Fall of 2007 ... RED #14 and #41.

The DP, Aaron Platt, did a great job capturing the drama and the fight scenes. It's being edited in FCP ProRes422 and we've just done a film-out test from the 2k DPX files to Kodak film print that looks stunning! We've screened filmout material from Genesis in our DI theater and the RED filmout looks just as good ... for certain scenes I would say even better.

Here's the link to the write-up we've just done on the workflow we specifically developed for the RED imaging pipeline ... we call it DI-flex and it makes the most of RED RAW plus Final Cut Studio plus SCRATCH. This camera really is revolutionary in terms of price and image quality.

Ted Schilowitz was in here on Friday checking out the movie ... watch this space for more news to come ....

Let me know if you need any more information.

    Regards,

extraordinary guys! cant wait to see the finished product!

    “The RED raw images
from the camera are amazing and a
creative joy to color grade,” notes Peak.
“There’s so much color information in the
.r3d files I can push them where ever I
want. Projecting the RED digital version
next to the filmout version gives you a
direct visual comparison of exactly how
stunning the RED ONE digital camera is.
The graded digital files as well as the filmout
    maximize the excellent cinematic
capabilities of the RED ONE camera.
Independent filmmakers are now in a
position to show the world that their
movies can look as good as a studio film
    shot on 35mm.”

    Very encouraging! Thank you

If all goes well, I'll be directing a feature in the fall/winter with #3127 from a screenplay I'm finishing as we speak.

    Any Atlanta cinematographers out there?

Check out DELIVERED - we're on Day 5 - brutal desert heat. Cooled the camera easily with two ziplock baggies stapled together and saddlebagged over the camera body. The first time the camera turned off, we put the bags on and kept refreshing the ice and with the 106 degree temperature, it never turned off again.

    Don't forget The Hobbit Parts 1 & 2. I can't imagine they'd use anything else.
