Sorry if this has already been mentioned. I didn't see any other threads announcing it.
Today Avid released a new version of MetaFuze and Avid DS. Hand in hand, these two apps greatly simplify the offline/online workflow. With MetaFuze, you scan your Red footage, transcode to DNX media and an ALE file. Open a project in Composer, import the ALE file and relink. Once you've locked your cut, select the sequence and "Send to Avid DS". This creates an AFE file that opens in DS. Then you simply choose to conform by linking to the .r3d files or capturing and creating new media. Your multi layered, fluid motioned, titled sequence will be recreated from the .r3D files. You could also choose to use the DNX media that MetaFuze created, if you created a high enough quality for online. MetaFuze is a free download and will run under Windows, VMWare Fusion/Bootcamp and Linux. DS 10.1.1 is a free point upgrade. You can find all these over at Avid.com Michael Post Box Post |

We are going to give a demo of this workflow at the Motion Pictures Editors Guild (Los Angeles) towards the end of this month (March). If any of you are guild members, watch for the email blast from the Guild.
Also, I'll try to get a workflow tutorial up on Avid's site tomorrow, unless someone else beats me to it. Forrest Post Box Post |

big news there.....where does the initial transcoding take place? within metafuze? what color control do you have over this 'dailies' processing into native MXF-wrapped formats?

Finally, this is the news I have been waiting for. How do I get on the list to see a demonstration?

I don't know if anybody would know this, but I'm planning on buying a new computer soon. I was looking at either the older 3.0 GHz Mac Pro 8 core or the new 2.26 GHz Mac Pro 8 core. Does anybody know what would be the fastest computer for running Metafuze which I am guessing is avid's version of RED Rushes.

There will be more things at the meeting than are listed on the site at this moment. Here is also a brief summary of the new Avid RED workflow. |

I like the way they rub it in, smooth Multi-layered timeline. I hope Apple has an announcement soon.
