Default Zeiss 17-35mm

Have not seen to many of these nice little Zeiss designed zooms having this conversion done to them. Most of these (if not all) of these lenses were made for the Contax line of cameras. While you can get a Contax to Canon adapter, it is always best to avoid the use of such if at all possible.

Also this lens covers FF35

Chuck, are you saying that there would be a Contax mount or whatever for DSMC?

This lens you linked to is solid gold. It's worth $2,500 at least. These things might be worth double that in the future. If anyone's got the cash sitting around, I highly recommend scooping this up immediately. Then, to thank me for the tip, you can loan it to me for a weekend.

Hi Tom,

Don't know what DSMC is. There is another one of these listed under Contax Zeiss Lens on ebay where I saw this one and they want 3.7k or something like that for it. If DSMC is a Canon thing you can buy a Contax to Canon adapter for anywhere for 25.00 to around 100.00. They do vary in quality. I believe ther is info about such at the Cronus site.

Here..

DSMC is Red's new camera system (including FF35), which will offer a number of easy-to-change mounts, like PL, Canon, Nikon, etc. No idea if Contax is one of them.

Once Red's FF35 cameras hit the streets, my guess is that these Contaxt 17-35s are going to skyrocket in value, because they kick ass and cover FF35. I would join the bidding myself on this lens but I just bought a Nikon 14-24.

They already have been going up in price as have all the Contax/Zeiss lens have, The wonderfull 21mm 2.8 jumped from around 1k to between 2 an 3k. I first mentioned these lenses over a year ago and they have steadily gone up in price. Take a look on ebay under Contax Zeiss Lens. There are some wonderfull optics there such as the PC 35 shift lens and the 55 and 85mm f1.2 limited edition lens. And one of my favorites the 200mm f2 when combined with the Mutar 1.4x and the 2x extenders gives you a 200 f2, 280 f2.8 and a 400 f4 all in one case.
Anyhow all these Contax mount lenses can take a Canon adapter unit for use on what ever camera has a Canon mount and they all cover FF35 format.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 5D2 drives up prices as well.

Yeah it's nuts what happens when supply exceeds demand. LIke what has happend with PL mount primes. Insane asking prices for older (not saying that they are bad) lenses.

Here is one of those aposonnar 200's I mentioned. A year or so ago you could buy one for 2-3k.

Oh well at least it focuses in the right direction. LOL

If you want to save some bucks and can stand one less stop, here is a nice lens. Don't know how it performs with the Mutars.

Why don't you snipe? I use the myibay.com snipe app with firefox. Workz like a charm and you don't have to be online for it to snipe.
