I agree about the issue about calling the EVF "Bomb". I'm very surprised that you would call it that. Anyone who has dealt with airlines and border stuff... ugg! Not trying to be a smart ass either. I love Red, but that is a bad idea. A year or two ago a French man was arrested for saying "explode' on a US plane. He was having a hard time getting his bag into the overhead compartment. A steward tried to help him and he said don't push too hard or the bag will explode. His translation was bad, as he meant that the seams would come apart. He was taken off the plane and charged with uttering a "threat". He lost in court.
And who can forget the guy wearing the transformer t-shirt with a picture of one of the transformers arms as a gun. They made him change his shirt before he was allowed on the plane. As a Canadian, crossing the border, or flying on US airlines causes me great stress. I know Jerrod is a fellow Cannuk, but calling it "bomb" is not a great idea. (plus I don't get the entendre...what's the connection to bomb?) |

I like the simplicity and feel of a good manual lens too. Makes for a more deliberate and thoughtful approach to your shots I think. I plan to use the 12-240 for nature photography mostly.

So how shallow you can make the depth of field on a 2/3" camera, just as with any camera, will be controlled by how wide-open your lens aperture goes. Let's just say that an f/1.5-stop on the Mini Prime is close to an f/1.4-2.0 split. Therefore that would look like shooting at f/4.0 on a Super-35 camera. |

The Scarlet fixed 8X will in particular be judged against cameras like the 5D mark II when it comes to this sort of form-factor debate.
Obviously the FF35 Scarlet or the S35 scarlet... with a bunch of modules attached... will be a different situation calling for proper shoulder mount or handle mount or tripod or whatever you like... but there's a large part of the smaller scarlet's market who are going to want to fling this thing around like a pimped up DSLR and I sincerely hope it can do that without feeling and looking too awkward.[/QUOTE] I might get flamed for this, but you really shouldn't be handholding a motion camera without some sort of longitudinal suport system if you are expecting any sort of steadiness in your images. The Scarlets look like they have a high center of gravity, but you're going to want a top handle/side handle/ shoulder mount or some other kind of support to shoot video. Anyone who is using a 7D or 5DII now should know this - the film plane to center of balance ratio is weird on such a short (front to back) camera so handholding for video is not really an option (at least in my opinion).

Guess I forgot to refresh my browser! I have to agree, it seems like an interesting choice in naming.
