More on it later. It's purpose is to provide the flexibility to control the cameras rather than stream video.

How about camera sync?

Synced start / stop between two cameras yes, but video sync requires a video Genlock signal be fed to the camera brain or via an I/O Module.

REDmote is a full function wireless Camera Remote Control Unit. However it does not monitor video and provides no video-style sync signals....

(and in EPIC's case, as it has HD-SDI on the camera head as well as HDMI, that's a 2nd and 3rd HD-SDI output)

We have been asked on a couple of occasions now by broadcasters if we can use the HDSDI out for a transmission feed on our Red One's. I realise that thats not its primary intended use.

On the new cameras are there any reasons why the HDSDI could not or should not be used for programme purposes, eg quality of down conversion, format and so on....
