Default Speedgrade?

Maybe there is a way to use Speedgrade as a "shell" program, if that's the right word, to process footage. Let Redcine or some command-line version run "under" Speedgrade.
Only because the interface makes sense to me.
Cheers,
Harry

Hi Harry,

Not quite sure what you mean here ? Speedgrade doesn't have the code necessary to debayer or even read redcode, so as you say - you would still require Redcine etc to do the work .. so there would be no way to speed up the process with speedgrade. Or are you just talking about using speedgrade's interface to control Redcine etc ? As the controls are not the same I'm not sure how this would work ? Or why it would be a benefit ?

Cheers,
S.

Just as a coloring tool. I can actually work with it (my brain) and the interface is better (for me) But yes, I figured that it does not debayer and that's why I thought it could front for another program...
Cheers,
Harry

speedgrade is -the- pioneer of debayer, in fact they had complete bayer-basing workflows even before red was released.

they support arri raw, cineform raw, si: 2K raw, phantom 65 raw etc. and are open to support redraw once its open.

also you can work with the redcode qts on osx, speedgrade is available on osx, windows and linux.

maybe just give them a call or speak with them an nab. axel mertens who also posts here on reduser.net has some pretty interesting knowledge regarding speedgrade raw workflows btw.

I used SpeedGrade since a year or so on many projects and lately on a commercial for cinema release shot with RED.

Nomen est omen - SpeedGrade is fast and very intuitive - and platform agnostic (MAC, Wndows, Linux). With a Nivida 4500fx or better the new 5600fx 1080p grading is RT up to 30 fps with many layers stacked.

From an artistic view SpeedGrade is brilliant - just to name the ability to do crossed colour correction like you can do with a Spirit and a Pogel off a 35mm negative. Something I missed a lot when I did my first steps in desktop grading with FinalTouch.

SpeedGrades tool set is very thought after and easy to learn, from basic grading up to complex grading stacks containing, masks, alpha files, secondaries, custom shaders etc...

Highly recommended for anyone who loves the art of grading.

From a producers view SpeedGrade is great because it accomplishes the finishing process very fast and is affordable even for the small production company. You can customise your grading system to your personal needs and budget.
You can use SpeedGarde in a fully pimed up grading suite with a fast FC RAID, Tangent controls, 2K projector, ECinema display, etc... or just with a mouse or Wacom board and an Eizo 24" for HD 1080p. Or anything between. The price for the software is no secret: www.speedgrade.com

Grading off RAW files is the future for sure but RT debayering plus satisfactory RT colour correction is hard to achieve. Without dedicated hardware just with an off-the-shelf desktop I doubt that this will be accomplished in the near future. But we will see. As Laguun said, Iridas has a huge knowledge about RAW workflow.

NAB will be very interesting - especially regarding the RED workflow.

Hans

Edit: Jay, good to hear that Iridas "arms" reached you already...

REDline can take you there. You would need more storage than if you did native R3D in scratch. But you could just REDline your entire project to DPX and take it into Speedgrade with an EDL. Depending on the size of the project.
