Default REDRAY 4K the Post-Modern Blu-Ray!!!

Has anybody noticed Jim's talk abut 4K delivery, and his commitment to 4K?

What good is shooting anything else besides movies, unless the clients SEE it in 4K? The answer IS...REDRAY 4K.

Just when Sony has won the format war, another will kick off. 4K on an optical disk looks like a near future.

I just found this on the US Trademarks...

My buddy works for InPhase Technologies here in Colorado; you should check out their holographic versatile discs. They should do the job just right. :) And they should be at NAB this year for some demos.

I think you're getting a little too excited a little too soon.

I don't imagine Jim & co going into a consumer format war with Sony with their hands so full, right after the format war and with the advent of major online distribution.

Then again, those magic pixies can work wonders...

I dont know the read/write speeds of HVD but if there is a significant increase in speed and stability when compared to hard drives, I can see it being used to feed images/data to the line of RED 4K display solutions.

I like the thinking behind that. No messing about with complex DCI spec conforming, have a REDCINE like software application that checks for compatability/allows tweaks, then it burns your film onto the REDray disk. You just simply put the disk in the REDplay breakout box connected to your 4K projector and away you go!

I think that technology like this would be more suited to digital cinema distribution. If it's decided that it becomes the standard and supports all the known audio codecs used in the cinema... Actually maybe audio could be run separately but it would certainly be more convenient.

Maybe so, but anything is possible for the Red Team.

I think this is in line with some stuff that Jim said in the past about where RED's Digital Cinema technology was going and if such technology could be adapted for home theater usage, he's got a potentially huge cashcow though I don't think it's the right time to put 4K in the home yet with consumers just now making the transition to HDTV at a snail's pace. Then again, we are talking about something coming from a man who has been known to break the fundamental laws of the universe from time to time so who knows where this will go.

Call me stupid, but I don't see the need for 4K home theatre any time soon. We all know that the size of the screen/viewing distance is an important part of the equation, with many people unable to even benefit from full 1080P at the moment.

Then again, we can adapt personal computer models of development, whereby software/end products are designed to work on unearthly complex technologies, which results in semiconductor manufacturers scurrying along to meet demand...

Still the #1 factor of Full HD is not size, but price.

If Jim J. can offer a 4K TV for $750 it will be a hit.
