Default Post your requests for Apple Final Cut/Studio/Colour etc here

Ok Guys I was thinking about this for a while. It seems many users feel Apple are not putting enough focus or emphasis into solving and delivering solutions in a timely manner. It seems the whole development structure and new implementations are not as streamlined as they should be. Maybe we have been spoilt by Reds hands on approach in delivering what the customer needs and wants.

There have been a few requests for an apple representative on this forum or at least a voice. I may have missed this if so sorry.
If this is not possible then maybe somebody out their with good Apple contacts might get this thread to the people who make the decisions.

Anyway its up to you guys post your top Apple requests here, lets hope we can get some action on them.

Roundtripping between FCP and Color. Proper UI for color. Stable color. Basically, make Color an integrated part of FCS, not some last-minute-add-on.

Possibility to Flop videos from Compressor.

A simple cloning brush or tool in either FCP or Color. This is one thing that was indispensable for me in Avid and the fact that there isn't even a descent plug-in that can do this well for FCP surprises me. I've tested the CHV and other clone plug-ins but they are all clunky and don't work well. A simple elegant, photoshop-like clone brush would be wonderful for scratch and dust removal and the ability to remove unwanted items within a frame. There are other ways to deal with these issues, but the are much more laborious and time consuming. CLONE TOOL PLEASE!!!!!

Full 10bit support
full 4k support
integrated dpx/cineon workflow
Stable Gamma
Blu Ray Authoring in DVD Studio

I like color to be seperated from FCP, just a bit easier exchange especially still frames, or support of alpha channels.

25 fps dpxs working properly in color
Gammashift issues solved, not only for prores
RAW playback/editing in both FCP and Color, and not "as prores files"
Distributed rendering in color (and please in FCP, too...)
10bit rgb throughout

Give Ian Bloom a million dollars and buy and finish Crimson and integrate it into FCP. The man deserves some green.

Gamma fixed above all.
Then R3D support at least in Color and better colorspace in FCP.

I should preface with a disclaimer that my opinions on Color are based on my experience in the workflow of a fast-turnaround, high-client expectation commercial post-house. YMMV for other workflows such as short films, longformat docs, etc...

Roundtripping used to totally suck in FinalTouch/Color, but as someone who uses Color on a near-daily basis in client-supervised sessions (and has spent many many many hours learning to troubleshoot its quirks) I find 95% of roundtripping scenarios in Color 1.0.2 to be working problem free, at this point.

Of course things like graphic inserts, FCP generated freezeframes, time-remapping (although Constant speedchanges and reversals generally work fine now), nested sequences etc are still problematic, but are not showstoppers, given the major improvements in other areas of Color that *were* showstoppers in 1.0 and 1.0.1 (i.e. color/gamma shifts in renders, unwanted deinterlacing when Geometry Room is used, rendering of speed changes etc .)

I don't understand what you mean by a "Proper UI". This implies that the UI is "improper", which it is anything but. The Color UI is generally fine. It could stand to inherit the standard Mac OS X file requestor dialogs, but I definitely dont see any need in Aqua-fying the overall interface. I can absolutely fly in the Color interface, even without a control surface.

The WORST thing that can happen to Color is to integrate it into the FCP interface. Low-level integration, in terms of seamless, native translation/conform of FCP projectfiles would be a level of "integration" that would be super awesome, but the reason why Color excels at what it does is precisely because it's not shackled by the terrible UI conventions of FCP.

As an aside, I think threads like this are useful in terms of publicizing feature requests and bugs that other users may not be aware of, but please know that NOTHING you post on a thread like this will make any difference in terms of whether Apple improves on the product or not.

By internal Apple policy, software engineers are not allowed to address bugs or feature requests that are not formally submitted through the Apple Bugreporter (http://bugreport.apple.com). Basically, if it isn't in thier bug tracker (to which feature requests can also be submitted), it officially doesn't exist. It sucks, but that's how Apple works.

So instead, I would suggest that people spend thier time and energy submitting bugs and featurequests to bugreport.apple.com (you can sign up for a free ADC account in order to do so), instead of--or in addition to--posting them on forums like this. Posting gripes on message-boards makes you feel better by getting it off your chest, but submitting your gripes directly to Apple will actually get shit done.

Very good points, Mel.

For me Color right now is a stand-alone application, and not really part of the FCS suite, it just "feels" totally different. But that comes down to personal preference and not having the time to get used to a totally new UI. I don't really see why Color could not be like the 3-wheel color filter in FCP?

And yes, I have in the past submitted feature requests to Apple, and two of them even made it into subsequent releases. If you either have a Killer Function idea or if enough people make a request, then Apple does indeed listen. Just don't expect feedback ;)
