Default bad files - redcine works, but not redalert or proxys

I just did a shoot - all 4k 16:9.
we did about 110 takes.
About 25 of these can't be opened in RedAlert! - it crashes.
The proxy files can't be opened in Quicktime - it crashes. and Finder crashes.
The proxys can't be loaded into FCP. It crashes.
The r3ds DO load and work fine in Redcine.

Some of the files are large, some small...
I've tried copying the R3D/proxy folders to other drives, other computers.
Same result.
World of pain.
What gives?

I'll upload one to my public folder soon...

The audio was only recorded onto the camera (please - no lectures...)
I'll have to extract it from the headphone socket for these, it seems, which will cost money. grrr.

Red Alert! and the Red Quicktime component do not support 16:9 R3D files. This is a common misunderstanding, and I suggested to Red that they make that information more prominent in all their literature, for what that's worth.

16:9 support is in Redcine and "coming soon" to the others (as it has been these past 6 months.)

On the other hand, Red is a professional-use product and I believe they presume any user would test the compete workflow prior to any real shoot.

How much are you supposed to test?
i DID test.
MOST OF THE FILES DO OPEN.

I just extracted audio off most of the files via Redalert successfully.
It's just some of the files seem corrupted some how, or crash the system for whatever reason.
If this is a regular issue, Redalert should just be taken down from the downloads page, because it's causing people a lot of pain.

Seriously, are you saying onboard audio can't be used for any 16:9 reliably?

Can you tell me where this is actually stated by Red?
Maybe the most sensible thing would be to disable audio for 16:9 recordings, since there is no reliable way to extract it.
It's just ridiculous to have a system that looks/ sounds fine on set, can sometimes be tested to be OK in post, but is actually "not supported", fails sometimes, and then you're told... "we told you so."

This BS matters more to me than B16, I'm afraid. God I hate moaning, but the "gotchas" are a real PITA.

I wish these posts would stopped being spammed by people thinking they know how to use the camera when they do not. PEOPLE, the camera is actually a computer that runs software. There are NO moving parts. You need to learn the software inside and out. Pushing the little red button is easy, learing an entire computer program is not.

Default read the manual look at the firmware download page, hire an expert.

see picture below

4k 16:9 has NEVER EVER EVER worked with red alert or as quicktimes until about 4 hours ago.

this language is in every single limitation language for ever build since build 1.

this is why it pays to have someone who knows the camera on your set.

Well it DID work for me, most of the time. Yes the the crazy noise was always there, the opening and working with the files in quicktime was hit and miss ...
some files worked, some didn't. I do know the camera well enough to know that it's hard to know it with assurance. Things are sometimes inconsistent...

unfortunately all went great in the tests...
anyway, that was then...

And I'm afraid that I still believe that the camera should not be able to create proxies in formats that are not supported - it should be disabled, rather than be allowed with a disclaimer down in the download notes. It's just going to make trouble. Anyway - another moral of the story is, its a camera before a sound recording device. The sound department recording gear is what should be relied upon, and this has been stated by Jarred.
