A topic of continual conversation is the less than desirable S/N ratio we've got. Amidst amazingly good posts and threads lie tons of crap. Also, good posts full of solid knowledge get lost due to locking of threads of simply the thread running its course. Knowledge that should not be buried is being lost.
My proposal is to introduce a simple rating system at the post level, change the rankings such that only registered real name users have the power of ranking and introduce searches that can access things like 'the top ten ranking posts of this week'. Thoughts?

Shawn as always great idea! I think this would be a great direction to go. How to setup the system thats another question thoughts? I have my own but will hold back to hear others first.

Completely agree, and great idea. It takes 30 minutes of digging every day to find the 5 minutes of relevant posts.
It's almost bad enough were someone needs to set up a reduser blog that re-posts the useful posts and provides a summary of the day with links to the full threads. (I don't think I've seen a board with the post ranking system. Most is per thread. If there is a way, it'd be great.) |

A rating system would be genius.

Or a completely moderated wiki/FAQ-style "best-of-REDUSER" generated by mods combing through posts for the little nuggets of relevant knowledge... Sort of hyrbrid of what a published guide and the internet both offer.
I'm surprised there hasn't yet been the equivalent of a "Goodman's Guide" for the RED. The fact that things change so fast makes the web a better medium, I guess... but, as I say, there isn't yet an even compromise between this forum and a good ol' hardcover reference manual.

I am not sure what would be best but something that didn't take a lot of work would definitely make it more likely. It would be nice to have something whatever it would be.
