Default Mistakenly changed the roll number on the compact flash

Our customer mistakenly changed the roll number during the shoot, and three takes which were on the compact flash are not recognizable.

Is there any way to retrieve these takes?

Martin thanks.

Media wasn't even mountable.
I also check with DATA Rescue software and don't see any files.

Ouch. I´d open a support ticket with RED and see if they have any advice/magic tools.

When you say changed the roll number I presume they reformatted the media?
Not sure about CF cards but the RedDrives work with Data Rescue software. I'm guessing Solid State is simpler to reformat too empty than the disk in a RedDrive so the shots may well be lost.

I work on post production field, so no expert of RED ONE operation, but I think they reformatted the media by changing the roll number and the consequences.

I did try the DATA Rescue II but nothing other than the new folder with the new roll number. Ouch is right. That is why we recommended them to hire professional DIT or rent RED ONEs from Visceral Psyche.

So, I guess no one knows magic tool then.

i think you tried everything i would but it sounds like you lost it.

only one person (ie. the DIT) should be incharge of chaninging the media, and it sould have warned that that was stuff on the card and asked are you sure.

As a rule all meadia should be formated before you put it on the camera, so if some one elce say the loader had to load the card on the camera, theye would discard it if it came up with the message and used the next card, and informing the DIT the previos card had somthing on it. thus stopping this from happerning! Again if you had a DIT on set they would have told you that.

Moral of the story, tell production they just learnt the lesson the hard way.
they didn’t supply one so it’s not your fault, pass the buck.

It doesn't pay to cheap out on someone who knows what they are doing in order to save a buck (or Yen in this case).

Hopefully next time we can convince them to use our services so this kind of mistake doesn't happen again! ;)

Cheers for the info Kaku!

I heard today that the people who had this problem got into this problem because they had both the compact flash and the RED drive connected and instead formatting the drive, they mistakenly formated the compact flash with the footage recorded. I guess you should never have two medias at the same time, but rather it could happen to anybody unless you are really careful. I guess that is the reason why RED came out with the undead. Does anyone know if REDUNDEAD would have helped in mistakenly formated compact flash?

By the way, the same people who made the mistake to format the compact flash did really fabulous shooting with RED. Amazing low light performances. Best pictures I ever seen in Japan shot with RED ONE. It's too bad that I can't share the footage at this moment but I will be able to share them later, so please stay tuned.

Tom,(or everyone else) how do you format the card without using the Cam? Is it possible to do this with the card reader and laptop?
