It's a good practice to back up the data from the camera and verify backups, then erase the media on the computer so that when it's loaded on the camera it just says unformatted media. Then if you ever see the warning that there are ## clips on the mag, you'll know that the drive wasn't properly handled during the backup and you can go check to make sure everything is backed up.
EVEN IF YOU FORMAT IN THE COMPUTER YOU STILL HAVE TO FORMAT ON THE CAMERA. |

In my experience, you can change the slate ( cam letter) without reformatting. But not the roll #.

You should try REDundead. That is the main reason that app was released. If you have formatted the card BUT HAVE NOT RECORDED ONTO IT AFTER FORMATTING, you have a good chance of recovering the data. If you have already recorded over the formatted card then the data is likely not recoverable.
