I am thinking of buying a red and was wondering if I made the purchase within the next week when I would likely receive it? Thanks

Serial numbers 1-50 Delivered
Serial numbers 51-100 Begins October 15th (50 units) Serial numbers 101-200 Begins October 30th (100 units) Serial numbers 201- 600 Begins November 30th (400 units) Serial numbers 601- 1100 Begins December 30th (500 units) Serial numbers 1101- 1600 Begins January 30th (500 units) Serial numbers 1601- 2200 Begins February 30th (500 units) Serial numbers 2201- 2700 Begins March 30th (500 units) Serial numbers 2701- 3400 Begins April 30th (700 units) Serial numbers 3401- 4100 Begins May 30th (700 units) + someone said this: #2792 from an order I placed on Nov 18th you would be around 3000 i guess We made the decision today to hold production so we have the fewest amount of cameras to retrofit. I do not have a new confirmed schedule, but will post one as soon as we know exactly where we stand. It is most likely that 101-200 will begin shipping November 30th and 201-600 will begin shipping December 10th. + We are going to be a bit late on the December deliveries due to fine tuning and production ramp up of the new lens mount. I can't tell you an exact date that we will begin shipping but it should still be early in the month and we do expect to get the full amount of scheduled cameras out by month end. The delay should not affect future delivery schedule. Good news is many more features enabled for serial #100+ deliveries and a much more solid platform. Plus the image has improved. A little late but worth the wait... We appreciate your patience. Jim __________________ |

You'd probably receive it near the middle of next year... could be sooner, could be later.

I think buying a RED is like buying a ticket on the first commercial spaceflights... you buy a ticket while they are refining the rocket. The first buyers get the opportunity to fly on the test rocket, while the ones later in line get to ride on newer, uncrashed rockets.
Take a number and wait until they get safer rockets. They will tell you when your number is up. Meanwhile, we got this cool forum to cry, laugh, argue, bust-on. (Sorry for the above... it's just that I've got all this time on my hands while waiting for my number to come up.) |

But Jim said that this camera probably will never get finished..... jump in when you think it looks good. It looked good for me from the start.

I am sure someone reacted on that before but I just had to write something on this forum. Everyone seems to be so wise and knowledeable about the Red and I had nothing to write...:mail1: |

It won't the middle of next year unless there are significant delays. It'll be more like sometime in May. The middle of next year is the end of June.

Like software, it is useable but just keeps getting better. Remember digital cameras are like a camera and film together in one package. And film was always getting better too.
