Default Monitoring

Hi !

We used on the last production the hole time the HD-SDI output for monitoring. It seems that all the information shown at the bottom of the Red-LCD like histogram, menu, etc. is cutted out. So my question to the RED TEAM: Will there be a possibility to get this shown via the HD-SDI output, at minimum at the preview port???????

For us it will be very important.

thx for feedback

regards
rainer

Hi Rainer, the HD-SDI is limited in its GUI support to frame guides and since Build 14, to Focus Assist (overlay) It design intent is that you would use one of either the RED-LCD, RED-EVF or the HDMI port to view the full menu structure. I do understand that at the moment, the LCD + HD-SDI cannot be used at the same time (you can switch between the two) but we are working as fast as we can to resolve that issue.

Thank you all for your patience.

Thx for the fast reply Stuart! But will be the hole information shown at the HD-SDI output when you can run it together with the LCD, or is it shown when you use it together with the EVF?
So we had the cam the hole day on crane, so I have to look to the controls specially to the histogram... our monitors have a waveform monitor build in, but nevertheless for me it is very important to see it. Think we will never monitor via the HDMI output.
Conclusion: It will be very fine if you have an option to bring the hole information out of the HD-SDI Preview port.... please !!!!

thx
rainer

Default HD-SDI PREVIEW output

We can't easily do that unfortunately Rainer. But if exposure is your concern, then we do support Zebras and False Color exposure meters on the HD-SDI. We'll bear your comments in mind for the future though.

I'll second that request. Once you get used to using the Panasonic 9 inch LCD (BT-LH900a) you can't go back to the little Red LCD. The focus is so critical in 4K you really need a bigger monitor to judge it properly.

I have never done a Red shoot using the Red LCD! It gets to be a real hassle to keep walking around the operator to look at the displays on the back of the camera!

An option to output the basic info would be appreciated: Media, framerate, battery and rolling indicator. That's all we need.

In the not so famous words of Marcel Marceau; Mais pourquoi?

I know the idea is to keep the waveform/histogram etc in the strip at the bottom of the LCD, so it doesn't impinge on the image area, but one thing I would love to see in a future build is the ability to toggle the waveform (with one of the user buttons) between its current "small and at the bottom" position to "large and in the middle of the picture". I find it a bit small to be useful at the moment, and would mind it blocking the picture temporarily while a shot was being set up.

I'd rather see the whole image shift up to the top and erase the top line of info when the waveform comes up. Waveform is too small to be much good and there's no reference lines but if you could get rid of the shutter/asa stuff at the top and shift the picture up then you would free up a lot of space at the bottom to make the waveform higher res and more useful.

Shutter and ISO and stuff liek that don't change during a shot most of the time so why waste screen space on them especially when theyre always available on the back LCD panel anyway? When the waveform is up you should use as much of space as you can so get rid of that top line stuff and give us lots of good high-rez waveform goodness at the bottom!
