For a long, long time people have been requesting many of these connections not attached to the brain. Boom and in a small module to boot.

Will there be a Production Expander with more than one SDI port?

Gotta have multiple SDI outputs, this is a good start but not enough for Production Needs.

You guys are running with the Modular Boards this time around really curious to see where it's gonna go.

So far Versatility is what Im seeing and at least 3 grand in modules to do so.

I have been sayin' for a long time-guesstimate 20-25K all in from CF Dragon to Cf Weapon. And likely worth every penny.

Thank you very much

With all the ports gone from the brain. This just might hold true. ;)

Is it just me, or is there literally no way to power the camera without a module of some sort? i.e. No DC IN on the brain at all?

Cheers from Berlin,

Paul :)

Yikes! Surely they don't make standard AC power cord method optional?

Ok, so having logged in to red.com and checked out everything, it seems the Base Expander is included as part of the Weapon 6K CF package trade-in deal (along with some other components designed to make our lives easier to go from Epic while using existing parts as much as possible). So kudos to Red for stepping up and I hope this clears up the confusion for anyone else who was wondering what I was wondering!

Exactly. Upgrade kit seemingly includes everything existing Dragon owners might miss in the new module/expansion hierarchy (incl that Lemo Adapter A so I can keep using the Bomb EVF I recently bought!). Cheers to RED for providing new flexibility in core brain deployment options: there's times when some of these output options just might not be necessary, we're getting into high end aerial work and audio + EVF is pointless baggage on the brain. In those times weight/compact size becomes critical, and the design choices made here really start to make sense... thoughtfully, the upgrade package preempts some of those issues and minimizes pain to existing owners expecting the same core flexibility of existing Dragon brains by including the key modules to compliment. Nice!

Is the Mic input on this single channel? That would be a shame.

Thanks... Definitely no GIG-E? It's the one thing missing that the DSMC body has.

But you get WiFi in return. Which is not bad either.
But it's true. If you want to tether, it seems you'd need the redvolt expander or one of Offhollywoods modules. (Though I dontt know which ones carry it)

Any chance you could elaborate a little? Seems there is only one Mic input? Or can the headphone input also be used as an input? Is it the same as the Epic inputs so they can be balanced and unbalanced? And as I read elsewhere it's not phantom powered?

It is a stereo 3.5mm mic port ( 2 channels )

In other words, two line level unbalanced inputs.

Thank you! OK, that makes sense then. Although I'd like the same or similar to what was on the "old" EPIC it should still be doable to use that with wireless packs with some tinkering. And that answers the No phantom power as well.

I think it's mic level input and not line level from what Jarred said. :) I think it's similar to what is on most DSLR's these days as a mic input.

Any chance for a small expander module with:

10 Gbps Ethernet port that allows tethered full bandwidth (300 MB/s) streaming of RED RAW to a computer for live/realtime grading, quality control, direct recording to RAID storage.
UHD/4K RGB output for monitoring, HDMI 2.0/SDI (6G/12G)

Is the Weapon CF hardware even capable of supporting this? Needs to know before pressing the order button...

Yes. Just encountered this issue re the base expander which for doc work is bummer. The RedVolt expander has phantom power. Though it is 2200 more than the base expander. Trying to find out if the package can be had with that swapped out. Otherwise for me that is hitting a wall.

I have a couple of Sennheiser wireless sets and have been using them in ENG style work (interviews with handheld camera) with the EPIC. It has worked really great. The output from the receiver is Mono Unbalanced so with a simple split cable (from minijack stereo to 2 minijack mono) should work fine I think. Now where on the Weapon body to attach 2 receivers? :)

Yes. I am trying to find out if one can run the mic by running it to the stereo input. But the issue is if there is no phantom power the 416 for example won't work. It does work fine on the current Epic. Oddly. This is deja vu - as in the early Epic days we had the no phantom power problem. Right now I am also seeing if I can swap out the base expander for a redvolt expander and just pay the difference. It is funny, I guess everyone gets so caught up 8K and so on that they forget to ask if the camera is at least as capable for audio and picture as its predecessor or do you have to pay a premium for audio. That would be a bit funny.

I hear you. :) Yes it's a little annoying with the phantom power, but then again you should have the full XLR's if your are going to do serious sound work. I have a couple Beyer Dynamic microphones witch can run on battery power (as well as phantom power) so I am OK in that regard. I think for my use this will work just fine. But yeah downgrading the audio in such a powerful camera is a bit funny. :) Although we do now have built in mikes as well witch is awesome for syncing up an external recorder (I have a Zoom H6 witch can record up to 6 tracks at once). So there is a lot of cheaper solutions to your problem than paying extra for a redvolt expander.

I just realized that this didn''s have Gig-E. We use Gig-E for our underwater work with FoolContol to control the camera. and the Weapon ReVolt Expander is too large to fit in out underwater housing. Any chance you guys will make just a Gig_E module? or add it to Base Expander. Or should i look into rewiring some stuff in the housing to make more space?

+1 Also, in the shop it says the Redvolt Expander won't be available until end of 2015. So the Weapon will be missing wired Ethernet for half a year?

With the new tethering support I was hoping for 10-Gigabit Ethernet to use the full potential.
