  1. #1 Monstro thoughts
    So my fellow compatriots,

I am now shooting my first feature on Monstro 8K VV and Cooke S7s. It is for Paramount and I am working with my friend and DIT Dane Brehm. I am so impressed with the "smoothness" of the image and the amazing skin tones we are capturing.

I feel that there are many fine cameras and lenses out there. They are tools for us to create images and tell stories. But I am so so happy with Monstro.

I feel that some of the complaints by ACs about studio mode build outs have been answered by PV DXL2 and the Ranger.

So I plan to shoot my next feature (also for Paramount) on Monstro or DXL2 and I have zero reservations.

Thank you Jarred and Brent and all at RED.

    Cheers,

    Peter

    Nice man!

Have not tested the S4´s on monstro myself. But curious, how much of the sensor are you planing to use? Read on the Cooke webpage some place that they only cover something like 30mm in diameter coverage which is not enough for FF 8k.

Sure Cooke on monstro even on a smaller slice of the sensor would look great. But I would of course want to see you use the whole VV sensor. When is the film due? looking forward to see.

Edit, me that for some reason saw a 4 where it said 7.

Just wanted to say thanks to Peter for being an active part of the RedUser community, and for helping bring a balanced perspective when it comes to cameras as a tool - there's a surprising amount of bias out there, one way or the other.

Bjorn he's using s7's, which are T2 and cover Full Frame Plus (and fully cover Monstro).

    Great to hear Peter.

Monstro is on my "when things take off" list.

Aha, did not know such was a thing, exiting. My mind must have read S4 by muscle memory. :)

Haha I figured, all good. You should def take a long look at the S7s, especially as you shoot on Monstro.

Would be interesting to see the S7s compared to the Thalias on Monstro in a real world shooting scenario...
