  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dance Music Video on the Scarlet-W

Very fine, and complements to your cutter as well. Too many dance performances these days are butchered by tight shots and fast edits. No errors here.

Thanks guys! Curious if anyone has thoughts/opinions on the coloring in particular. What you see is literally what came out of the camera, plus a tiny bit of vignette added and a couple shots brightened to match the rest of it. Curious if I could have made a substantial improvement to it by grading it. It just felt right as-is for some reason this time.
 
I think it does look a bit un-graded, but don't see that as a bad thing in this case. I think the contrast and colour of the subject-matter suits the rawness of the overall aesthetic. The sensor and lenses provide a look that could easily have been messed up, rather than enhanced, with a more heavy-handed or involved grade.

Thanks for sharing Tim, I thought it was really well done by everyone involved.

Letus Helix Jr Gimbal, Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS, and Foolcontrol for focus (although it didn't need much since I shot it all around F7 or F8 due to how bright it was in the room

Thank you! Didn't have much time to plan this, so I feel like I didn't bring enough lights for the extremely backlit scenario. What I had to do is put four Aputure 120d's at a 45 degree angle from the front pointing at the talent. Realistically we needed a little bit more light (maybe 30-40% more). Aputure's 300d would have been perfect for it, as we could have gotten away with maybe 2 of those instead of stacking 4 lights next to eachother.
 
Excellent work. I loved it. Loved the lighting though some more key light was needed so you could expose the background a bit better (first part of the video earlier in the day). Looks great non the less. Awesome camera moves and awesome crisp choreography. Did you practice with them before hand ? The colour is just fine...the only thing is that in the latter parts which is later in the day with the warmer tones...doesn't match in colour temp as in the earlier time of day ...colder/cooler part of the video.

Thank you! Yep, I totally agree, needed more of a key. As far as the color shift, I actually left this intentionally in order to have some sort of visual progression throughout the piece since it stayed in the same exact scene.
 
Oh ok...it was purposely done. Can't argue with that. I checked out some more of your vids...and your work is really nice. The one with the couple (male and female) in a loft type apartment/space and she disappears in the end...Wow.

Do you practice with the dancers before hand?

Thank you! Happy new years! I usually come to the very end of the last rehearsal to make any necessary tweaks for camera. I'll shoot a couple takes moving freely around them just to feel out the piece, and review before the actual shoot if I need to. I try to edit as much of it in my head before it happens just to have an idea of what shots I'll need and mentally check them off as I do the shoot.
