This new firmware update was released this week. Spoiler: no, time code won't resurrect after restart.

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES SINCE PREVIOUS BUILD
  • Added Timelapse support
  • Added undercranked frame rate support
  • Added Sync Out and Tally GPIO support
  • Added Beep Speaker sounds
  • Added 'Peripheral Upgrade' message
  • Added BMWAV filename to clip metadata
  • Fixed USB-C Static IP address on power up
  • Fixed date/time reset on boot
  • Fixed RF 800mm F11 IS STM lens displaying f/11.3 twice
  • Fixed SDI audio with only Channels 3/4 enabled
  • Fixed clamping of user entered shutter angle
  • Improved RF lens focal control
  • Hardware compatibility update
The changes list is almost the same as for the 1.6.4 release, only the last item "Hardware compatibility update" has been added.

Is anyone running this? What’s the verdict?

I installed it on one of my Komodos.
It didn't brick it. Was running it a bit earlier this morning. It seems stable. I hope to do some testing on the weekend so will see if any bugs come up.
I have a feeling this was more of a general bug fix.

  • Fixed date/time reset on boot
Eg: this was supposedly ‘fixed’ on the last ‘improvement’ .

It's not in any of the previous change logs other than this one.

It was in the 1.6.4 change logs already.

Maybe I just I misinterpret what that "Fixed date/time reset on boot" tells us, but the timecode still doesn't persist after restart and needs a fresh jam. The same with V-Raptor where the change log for firmware 1.1.2 also listed this as fixed but doesn't do what it says.

Interesting. Whatever the case, there's also notes of the 800mm. Wondering if it was a carry over from a beta build or something. Hard to know.

OK, I bumped up to 1.6.5. No hallelujah's here!

There are glitches or bugs all over the place: menus freeze and the buttons become unresponsive and can only be reinitiated by rebooting.
Examples of this happening during initiating calibration, focus, peaking, edge, a lot of features don't work after this. Reboot, reboot...
No sign of horizon and the usual disappointment as the TC - TOD faithfully returns to 00:00:00 on reboot.
In a word: crap!

Don't mean to be cynical, but is there anybody doing anything at RED?

Using this version since almost three weeks daily on all Komodos, I haven't had any of these "effects" so far. Are you sure it isn't caused by something connected to the cam, media etc.?

Hope so! Waiting on some things to get sorted myself.

No it's not, there's nothing else connected, camera, canon batteries and lens. Having said that, some of it does seem to be working now but that doesn't explain the initial glitches.

It's a great camera, I really appreciate it, but I can't help feeling RED haven't finished it in a thorough manner.
