I saw this on Newsshooter today, wasn't this old news? Or is it because we're on REDUser and RED FB and knew beforehand?

This is the black body which went on sale yesterday. The limited edition Rhino camera was somewhat like Stormtrooper releases, a couple months earlier.

Looking at the specs and the limited amount of footage I've seen so far, I'd say this is the best S35 digital camera there is.

The image-quality and features, especially for that price, are unprecedented, even compared to RED's own previous cameras.

There are still end-use requirements that wouldn't make it the preferred camera in all cases of course, but that doesn't take anything away from what this camera actually is and can do.

I'd say its being part of the DSMC3 platform, which itself is still undergoing development, is the only potential drawback of the overall camera I can see compared to other RED cameras and other manufacturers systems. And which probably wouldn't be an issue anyway, depending on what you specifically want to do with the camera.

Still dreaming of that 32-bit 25+stop no-clip sensor, while at the same time still needing to make better use of the tools already available, but am definitely impressed by what RED have achieved with that V-Raptor 8K S35 camera.

Yeah the S35 raptor looks amazing. Any word if it has the same SENSOR SEAM issue as the VV Raptor? Also wish the S35 sensor was a bit larger, but still - looks great.

The 8K S35 sensor does not have the seam. The seam thing on VV IMO has been greatly overreacted IMO, and that's from somebody who used two other cameras that can also produce it as well.

I think RED leaned hard into making Raptor 8K S35 very much compatible with all S35 glass. Though the 4-perf spec is 31.11mm diagonal, it's apparent a great deal of lenses out there, particularly wides, didn't cover that. Long time digital folks remember things regarding Mysterium-X, Dragon, and Arri no having full coverage. I can't think of anything that wouldn't cover 8K S35's sensor really. So you can actually use the 8K and not need to focus on extraction.

For Dragon, Monstro, and Raptor I run 6K or 5.5K depending on the lenses. Which is indeed a bit larger than Raptor 8K S35, but not by much.

But I'll poison your mind that Raptor 8K 16:9 and Super 35mm 3-perf are pretty much the same format size:

This make sense Phil. Raptor S35+ is basically OPTIMIZED to cover all S35 glass. Makes total sense.

isnt this same pixel size as Helium?
