I’ve sent an email to support@red.com but nobody has responded. Sent an email to my rep at Red, no response and a bit of an urgent situation.

Neither of my Red Angelbird CF cards for my Komodo are reading -except they did yesterday. I wanted to do another back up and now nothing is appearing on one card, and the other is unreadable -my iMac gives me a “this device is unreadable, do you want to initialize?’ Clearly I do not but now neither media is readable or recognizable by my computer.

Has anyone had this happen?

Have you tried putting it back in the cam and check what it does there?

Are you using angel it's readers? I first bought a SONNET reader, and that was a disaster.

Red reader. The camera wants to initialize…so weird since they only came out of the Komodo.

Crazy thing -I mount in camera -it says do you want to scan and fix…when I do that, I can’t access info. If I shut down and restart camera with media in and simply hit continue when I get the error message about the media, I can see the clips clearly, however they will not playback. But, in “continue” I am unable to format the card to re-use. Honestly, probably the strangest thing I’ve encountered with Red since 2007 (and I am a multiple camera owner, and champion).

And when I try to format I get “media format failed”. I shut down and restart, try to reinsert the card…nothing will work -it’s as though Komodo doesn’t recognize it’s own proprietary media.

Sad to report zero contact from Red over the weekend. And zero resolve at this point. Nothing’s magically fixed itself (no gremlins). Had to cancel a shoot and apologize. Unfortunate.

Have you tried to format the cards on a Mac or a PC?
Does seem like a dead cards to me, I've experienced such issues back when I was using a Nikon D200 and original CF cards of the time. Have to say over the whole 7 year period it has happened to me only once.

P.S. Mac is common to kill media connected externally, if it wasn't unmounted properly. The only card that died on me - was killed by a Mac Pro Tower.

Hmm. These cards have been read and written twice each. Doesn’t make any sense. They’re practically new.

I formatted in camera, and resisted formatting externally as I thought from the forum it was suggested one should always format the cards in camera, which is what I do with the mini SSD’s on my Ranger.
